                    WOLVERINES FALL TO MOHAWK, 7-3- SHARE sECTION TITLE

                    ELLWOOD CITY'S FIRST TITLE SINCE 2012-WOLVERINES WIN 24TH IN SCHOOL HISTORY

                    Ellwood City fell to Mohawk, 7-3 ,in the second game of their two-game series at Sanders Field Tuesday to tie the Warriors for the AAA Section One title. The 2nd-ranked Wolverines  and the 4th-ranked  Warriors ended the regular season with identical 8-2 records to gain the co-championship. The crown was Ellwood City's first since 2012 and the 24th in school history. The Wolverines, led by Head Coach Chris Weisz, have a 14-3 record overall. Both teams will now enter the WPIAL playoffs.


                    After a scoreless first inning, Ellwood City scored twice in the bottom of the second inning. Cameron Mills led off with a single to left field and Jake Biskup reached on a bunt single down the third base line. Nate Kennedy sacrificed both runners into scoring position. Mychal Cuevas hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Mills to give Ellwood City a 1-0 lead. Bokor followed with a line drive to left scoring Biskup to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead. Matt Kelly followed with a single sending Bokor to third base but the rally ended. Mohawk took the lead in the top of the third inning on a two-run double by Vince Pezzuolo to tie the score at 2-2. Tyler Howarth 's two-out single scored Pezzuolo to give Mohawk a 3-2 lead, Ellwood City knotted the score with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs, Cuevas walked and Bokor followed with a triple to right field scoring Cuevas to make the score 3-3. Mohawk regained the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning. Drew Wrona singled to right to lead off the inning, After a fly out and strikeout, Wrona stole second base and scored on Kamren O'Lare 's single to give Mohawk a 4-3 lead.  Ellwood City threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Biskup singled to left field. Kennedy followed with a line drive that was caught on a diving catch by rightfielder Howarth which he turned into a double play with Biskup running on the play to end the inning. Mohawk added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning  keyed by a Noah Motter two-run single to increase their lead to 7-3. Ellwood City failed to score in the seventh inning. 


                    Bob Fadden was the winning pitcher allowing six hits and one walk in a seven-inning route-going performance. Pezzuolo led Mohawk at the plate with a double, two singles and two RBI. Wrona and Howarth added two singles apiece. Motter added a two-run single. Bokor lead Ellwood City with a triple, two singles and two RBI. Biskup singled twice and Mills added a single. Cuevas walked and added a run-scoring sacrifice fly.


                      

                      WOLVERINES DEFEAT MOHAWK, 14-3, IN SERIES OPENER FOR section

                      Ellwood City unleashed a 15-hit attack on the way to a 14-3 victory over Mohawk in a key AAA game at Mohawk on Monday. The win raised the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette #2-ranked Wolverines record to 8-1 in the Section One and 14-2 overall. The Wolverines host the #4-ranked Warriors today and with the victory can win their first outright section championship since 2002.


                      Ellwood City opened the scoring with a run in the first inning when Jordan Keller drew a four-pitch walk and moved to second base on a single by Aaron Lake. Keller stole third base and scored on an error on the throw to give Ellwood City a 1-0 lead. Ellwood City erupted for six runs in the top of the second inning. Mychal Cuevas walked and Geordyn Bokor followed with a doubled to give Ellwood City a 2-0 lead. Matt Kelly followed with a single scoring Bokor to up the lead to 3-0. With two outs, Lake was walked intentionally and Cameron Mills drew a walk to load the bases. Jake Biskup followed with a double to the left field fence clearing the bases to raise the Ellwood City lead to 6-0. Nate Kennedy rapped a double scoring Biskup to give Ellwood City a 7-0 lead.  Mohawk added a run in the bottom of the frame to cut the lead to 7-1.


                       The Wolverines added a solo run in the third inning on a Kelly single, a walk to Keller and an RBI-single by Lake to up the lead to 8-1. Mohawk answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to slice their deficit to 8-3. Mohawk threatened in the bottom of the fourth inning with first and third occupied and one out. But Keller caught the runner stealing second base and a ground out ended the inning. After two scoreless innings, Ellwood City pulled away with four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Lake and Mills drew walks and scored pinch-runner Joe Nardone scored on a Cuevas single making it 9-3. Bokor followed with a two-run double to up the lead to 11-3. Kelly followed with a an RBI-double scoring Bokor to give the Wolverines a 12-3 lead. The Wolverines closed the scoring on singles by Lke and Mills and a two-run double to make the final score score 14-3. 


                      Lake led Ellwood City at the plate with three singles, two walks and an RBI. Kelly added a double, two singles with two RBI. Bokor and Kennedy doubled twice apiece with three RBI. Biskup doubled and singled with three RBI and Cuevas singled twice with two RBI. Mills singled and walked twice. Chase Weisz led Mohawk with four singles and Drew Wrona added three singles. 


                      Lake was the winning pitcher with five innings of work scattering nine hits and fanning seven. Kennedy and Biskup threw one scoreless inning apiece in relief.
