ELLWOOD CITY KNEE-HI LEAGUE ORGANIZED
With players from the Ellwood City Little League turning 13-years old and over the age limit for Little League, another league was formed. The Knee-Hi League, for players ages 13-15, was organized by Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Program officers. The four-team league play their games at Ewing Park Field.
EAGLES WIN FIRST KNEE-HI LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Eagles captured the 1st Ellwood City Knee-Hi League Championship. The Eagles, managed by Lou Oliastro, won both halves of the regular season.

EAGLES AND SONS OF ITALY MEET FOR ELLWOOD CITY KNEE-HI LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Eagles and the Sons of Italy meet in the Ellwood City Knee-Hi League Championship Series. The Eagles won the first-half title and the Sons of Italy won the second-half crown.

Don Costa fired a no-hitter to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 win over the Sons of Italy in the opening game of the Ellwood City Knee-Hi League Championship Series at Ewing Park Field. The victory gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series. Winning pitcher Costa fanned 10 batters for the Eagles.

The win gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.Winning pitcher Joe Cioffi threw a no-hitter for six innings and ended with a two-hitter to lead the Eagles on the mound. The VFW and the Eagles met in the Ellwood City Knee-Hi League Championship Series. The VFW won the first-half with a 7-1 mark and the Eagles won the second-half with a 6-0 record.

Joe DeCaria drove in the winning run in the seventh inning to lead VFW to a 4-3 win over the Eagles to win the Ellwood City Knee-Hi League title before a capacity crowd at Ewing Park Field. The VFW, managed by Charlie Hall, won the best-of-three series, two games to one. With the score tied 3-3, DeCaria drove in the winning run in the seventh inning. Rich Pertile was the winning pitcher for the VFW.

Dan Oliastro hurled a shutout to lead the CIO to a 1-0 win over the Sons of Italy in the opening game of the 8th Pony League Championship Series at Ewing Park Field. The victory gave the CIO a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Winning pitcher Oliastro twirled a two-hitter for the CIO. The Sons of Italy's John Antonossi allowed the CIO only one run.

The victory completed a two-game sweep of the the best-of-three series. Winning pitcher Oliastro fired a one-hitter and fanned eight batters to lead the CIO. Oliastro also led the Sons of Italy at the plate with three hits and two RBI.

Winning pitcher Ron Sabatino struck out nine batters. Alex Herman led the CIO with three singles. Gene Coccia doubled twice and Al Barbati doubled and singled.

Bob Tammaro added a triple and two singles with four RBI. Stan Conti added three singles with five RBI. Winning pitcher Joe Listorti fanned 14 batters fro the Sons of Italy. John Matrangol led the CIO with a double and two singles. Ron Sabatino tripled and singled and Chuck Landolfi doubled and singled.

Wampum won the 12th Ellwood City Pony League Championship. Wampum, managed by Dusty Esoldo, went undefeated in both halves to capture the title.

Local 1220 scored the winning run when Wayne Thornhill singled, moved to second base on an error and scored on an infield error. Winning pitcher Mark Williams fanned 15 batters. Thornhill led Local 1220 with two singles. George Haklo led Koppel with two singles.

Mark Tanner struck out 15 batters fro New Castle. Ellwood City scored their first run when Ted Wehman scored on a triple by Williams.

Wampum defeated the Cards, 10-1, to win the opening game of the 16th Ellwood City Pony League Championship Series at Wampum. The win gave Wampum a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Winning pitcher Vic Sharek tossed a four-hitter for Wampum. Jerry Carpenter homered, doubled and singled for Wampum. Sharek added a double and single. Gary Belonzi tripled for the Cards.

Wampum took the lead in the second inning with a five-run outburst. Vic Sharek was the winning pitcher with six inngs of relief. Dale Zeh led Wampum at the plate with two singles. Ron Markus led the Cards with three singles.

Wur-Ell Wayne defeated Ellwood Finance, 12-7, in eight innings in the opener of the 18th Ellwood City Pony League Championship Series. The win gave Wur-Ell Wayne a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. The potential winning run for Ellwood Finance was cut down at the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings. Curt Johns led Wur-Ell Wayne with two triples and a single. Randy Burns addthree singles. Phil Lagana led Ellwood Finanace with three singles. Jim Ferruchie and Mark Wilson added two-run triples. Local 1220 rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Ellwood Finance, 8-6, in the 19th Ellwood City Pony League Championship at Sanders Field. The win gave Local 1220 a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Keith Foley broke a 6-6 tie with a two-run single for Local 1220. Scott Tritt and Tom Lash led Local 1220 with two singles. Curt Fitzgerald led Ellwood Finance with three singles. Jeff Belonzi doubled and singled and Mark Venezie added two singles.

Both Summer's and the Counselor's had one loss apiece to force the final game. Sumner's opened up a 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Counselor's scored a solo run in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to 2-1. Sumner's added three more runs in the top of the second inning to increase their lead to 5-1. Sumner's added a solo run in the fourth inning and a single run in the top of the sixth inning to make the final score 7-1. Winning pitcher McClinton fanned eight batters in his two-hit performance. Oliver Construction scored a run in the bottom of the fourth innin gto tie the score at 3-3. In the top of the first inning, Sitler & Lemmon scored the game's only run. Aaron Lilibridge walked and Kevin Ricciuti reached on a fielder's choice. A wild pitch moved both runners up and Ron Weller's ground out scored Lillibridge to give Sitler & Lemmon a 1-0 lead. Snider struck out the side in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. Sitler & Lemmon held a 5-2 lead in the fourth inning before Pomerico & Dimeo rallied for four runs to take a 6-5 lead. Pomerico & Dimeo scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull away to a 13-6 lead. Nick Nardone and Jeff Vitale led Pomerico & Dimeo with two singles and two RBI. Sitler & Lemmon ere led ny Joe Germanoski, Joe Bennett and Chris Bond with two singles apiece. Craig Smith added a triple. Winning pitcher Nardone threw four innings with Vitale getting the save.

Both teams have one loss in the double-elimination format. After ESB Bank scored a run in the top of the first inning, Sitler & Lemmon scored 17 runs in the next two innings. The ten-run rule was invoked after five innings. Winning pitcher Colton Kennedy scattered four hits and fanned six batters. Brandon LeViere led the Sitler & Lemmon with three singles and five RBI. Jacob Funk and Ray Johns doubled and singled with three RBI. Joe Bennett had three singles and Kennedy added a double. Joe Yarzebinski singled twice for ESB Bank. Terry Begley added a double.

Hasson State Farm held a 13-11 lead after six innings before scoring seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 20-11 lead. Hungarian Home scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to account for the final 20-17 margin. Evans led Hasson State Farm with a triple, double , single and six RBI. Jonathan Minnocci had three singes with three RBI. Ryan Carusone singled twice and Chris Weisz added a double. Ross Wyszomerski tripled and singled to lead Hungarian Home. The win gave the Hasson State Farm a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. Chris Weisz fired a two-hitter and drove in three runs to lead Hasson State Farm. Hasson State Farm took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Kyle Hutchison's two-run double. Hasson State Farm upped the lead 5-1 in the bottom of the third inning with the help of a Weisz' two-run triple. Hungarian Home narrowed the deficit to 5-2 in the fourth inning. Hasson State Farm scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to stretch the lead to 7-1. Hungarian Home scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to account for the final 7-3 margin. The victory gave the Hungarian Home a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. The Hungarian Home held a 3-2 lead before the offensive explosion. Sitler & Lemmon scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. After a scoreless second inning, the Hungarian Home tied the score with a run in the top of the third inning to tie the score at 1-1. Hungarian Home took the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Sitler & Lemmon sliced the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the inning. Hungarian Home exploded with their 17-run barrage to take a 20-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning. The game was called after the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule. Aaron Graebing was the winning pitcher with four innings of relief. He fanned 10 batters and allowed one hit. Ben Maine led the Hungarian Home with a triple and double with three RBI. Sitler & Lemmon scored two runs in the first inning on a two-run single by Devon Foley to take a 2-0 lead. The Hungarian Home scored solo runs in the second and third innings to knot the score at 2-2. After a scoreless fourth inning, Hungarian Home scored five runs in the fifth inning. Hungarian Home combined a walk, two errors and a single by Aaron Graebing and two-run singles by D.J. Daufen and Mley to take a 7-2 lead. Mley threw two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh innings to give Hungarian Home the crown. Winning pitcher Mley did not allow an earned run on a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Sitler & Lemmon, managed by Dave Surma, won the double-elimination playoff tournament. Mike Locke led Sitler & Lemmon with a home run and triple at the plate and picked up the victory on the mound. Hungarian Home took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Sitler & Lemmon tied the score 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Hungarian Home scored twice in the top of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. Sitler & Lemmon scored a run in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to 3-2. Hungarian Home scored twice in the top of the fourth inning to up their lead to 5-2. Sitler & Lemmon rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 6-5 lead. After a scoreless fifth inning, Hungarian Home tied the score at 6-6 with a run in the top of the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Locke broke the deadlock with an RBI-triple to give Sitler & Lemmon a 7-6 lead. Devon Foley followed with a single scoring Locke to up their lead to 8-6. Locke lead Sitler & Lemmon with a home run, triple and three RBI. Foley tripled and singled twice and Tanner Gilchrist doubled and singled twice. Brandon Lucarelli singled twice.

ESB Bank downed Hasson State Farm, 8-5, in 58th Ellwood City Pony League Championship tournament. The win left ESB Bank the only undefeated in the double-elimination tournament. ESB Bank was led by Greg Lynn with three hits and Ryan Horgan with a home run and three RBI. ESB Bank scored three runs in the in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. ESB Bank stretched their lead to 4-0 with a run in the top of the third inning. Hasson State Farm scored a solo run in the bottom of the fourth inning to narrow the deficit to 4-1. ESB Bank scored a run in the top of the fifth inning to stretch their lead to 5-1. Hasson State Farm scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to slice the deficit to 5-4. ESB Bank rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh inning to up their lead to 8-4. Hasson State Farm scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to account for the 8-5 final margin. Lynn led ESB Bank with a double and two singles and Horgan homered, singled and drove in three runs. Ed Laugh singled twice and Chris Kline added a double. Stephen Zeh singled twice to lead Hasson State Farm. Gregg Williams tripled and Jared Vetica added a double. Winning pitcher Matt Carothers fanned six batters in 4-1/3 innings.

ESB Bank defeated Hasson State Farm, 15-4, to win the 58th Ellwood City Pony League Championship at Sanders Field. ESB Bank, managed by John Horgan, went undefeated in the double-elimination championship tournament. ESB Bank was lead by Ryan Horgan with six RBI and Chris Kline with three hits. ESB Bank scored runs in the first four innings to take a 12-0 lead. Hasson State Farm scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to narrow the deficit to 12-3. After a scoreless sixth inning, ESB Bank scored three runs in the seventh inning and Hasson State Farm scored a solo run to account for the final 15-4 margin. Horgan led ESB Bank with a triple, two singles and six RBI. Kline tripled, doubled and singled for ESB Bank. Scott Lewis doubled and singled and Greg Lynn singled twice. Logan MacDonald singled twice for Hasson State Farm. Winning pitcher Matt Carothers was the winning pitcher for Elks.

The win gave the Hungarian Home a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. After ESB Bank scored a run in the top of the first inning, Hungarian Home exploded for seven run in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-1 lead. Both teams scored a run in the third inning and Hungarian Home held an 8-2 lead into the fifth inning. ESB Bank rallied for four runs in the top of the inning to cut the deficit to 8-6. Hungarian Home bounced back with two runs to up their lead to 10-6. Hungarian Home added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to account for the final 13-6 margin. Keaton Docchio led Hungarian Home with three singles. Mario Greco singled twice with five RBI. Matt Barnes singled twice with two RBI. Mario Greco and Ricie Scott added two singles. HUNGARIAN HOME WINS 60TH ELLWOOD CITY PONY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Hungarian Home won the 60th Ellwood City Pony League Championship. The Hungarian Home, managed by Nick Mancini, Jr., compiled a regular season record of 10-2. Sitler & Lemmon finished in second place with a record of 6-5. A playoff tournament was not held due to scheduling conflicts.

Carlo Agostinelli smacked three doubles to lead Hasson State Farm to a 12-2 win over Sitler & Lemmon in the opening game of the 61st Ellwood City Pony League Championship Series at Sanders Field. The win gave Hasson State Farm in the best-of-three series. Hasson State Farm held a 2-1 lead after the the first inning and scored four more runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 6-2 lead. Hasson State Farm extended their lead to 9-2 with three runs in the fifth inning. Hasson State Farm scored three runs in the sixth inning to make the score 12-2 and the ten-run was invoked. Agostinelli led Hasson State Farm with three doubles. Nick D'Itri doubled and singled and Brian Hudson tripled with three RBI. Josh Williams singled twice. Rick Roth and Colin Roth doubled for Sitler & Lemmon. D'itri was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts in three innings of relief.

Hasson State Farm, managed by Mike Sinclair, won the best-of-three series, two games to none. Both teams scored two runs in the first inning to deadlock the game at 2-2. Hasson State Farm scored a run in the top of the third inning and three more runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 6-2 lead. Sitler & Lemmon scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to narrow the deficit to 6-4. Sitler & Lemmon scored single runs in the fifth and sixth inning to tie the score at 6-6. In the top of the seventh inning, Hasson State Farm scored the winning run on a triple by Carlo Agostinelli and an RBI-single by Josh Williams. Sitle & Lemmon failed to score in the bottom of the seventh inning. Agostinelli led Hasson State Farm with a triple and double. Nick D'itri tripled and Brian Hudson added a double. Sitler & Lemmon wee led by Jake Varrati and Brian Damon with two singles. D'itri was the winning with four innings of relief.

The win gave Hasson State Farm a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. Hungarian Home scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 5-0 lead. Hasson State Farm stormed back with six runs in the top of the second inning to take the lead 6-5. Hungarian Home regained the lead, 8-5, with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Hasson State Farm rallied for six runs in the top of the fourth inning to once again regain the lead at 12-8. Hasson State Farm scored twice in the bottom of the inning to narrow the deficit to 12-10. Hasson State Farm scored two runs in the fifth inning and three more runs to up their lead to 17-10. Hasson Stae Farm scored two more in the seventh inning to account for the final 19-10 margin. Nick Ioanilli led Hasson State Farm with a triple and double. D.J. Barrett added two singles and Kyle Docchio and Mitch Fraser added doubles. Hungarian Home were led by Logan Gibbons, Rick Roth, Matt Knoblach, Carlo Agostinelli and Ethan Fotia with two hits apiece. Fraser was the winning pitcher for Hasson State Farm.

Hungarian Home scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to increase their lead to 3-0. Hungarian Home rallied for six more runs in the bottom of the third inning to up the lead to 9-0. The Hungarian Home lead went to 12-0 with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Hasson State Farm sliced the deficit in half with a six-run rally in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 12-6. Hungarian Home secured the title with four runs in the bottom of the inning to raise the score to 16-6 which invoked the ten-run rule. Brian Hudson was the winning pitcher for Hungarian Home.
