ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE ORGANIZED
The Ellwood City Colt League, for players ages 15-16, is organized by Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Program officers. The league is comprised of the Cubs, Reds, Frisco, Wampum, Koppel and New Galilee.
WAMPUM, FRISCO TIE, 1-1. IN OPENING GAME OF 1ST ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Wampum and Frisco tied 1-1 in the opening game of the 1st Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series. The game was called after seven innings due to darkness. Wampum's John Sharek threw a three-hitter and fanned 13 batters. Frisco's John Ferrante tossed a six-hitter. Jim DeMark and McCarter sinled twice for Wampum. Ferrante led Frisco with two singles.
WAMPUM EDGES FRISCO, 4-3, IN 1ST ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Wampum edged Frisco, 4-3, in the 1st Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Wampum. The win gave Wampum a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Ed Payne's sacrifice fly for Wampum in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Winning pitcher Chuck Hennon tossed a six-hitter for Wampum. Ralph Nye fired a two-hitter for Frisco. Sam DeCaria singled twice for Frisco.
WAMPUM DOWNS FRISCO, 4-0, TO WIN 1ST ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP BEHIND DEMARK
Behind the one-hit pitching of Jim DeMark, Wampum captured the 1st Ellwood City Colt League Championship with a 4-0 win over Frisco at Frisco. Wampum swept the best-of-three series, two games to none. Winning pitcher DeMark fanned eight batters. Tom Sbarra doubled and singled for Wampum.

REDS DOWN KOPPEL, 9-5, IN OPENER OF 2ND ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
The Reds downed Koppel, 9-5, in the opening game of the 2nd Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Koppel. The win gave the Reds a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Jeff Lash led the Reds with a triple, single and three RBI. Steve Pavick was the winning pitcher for the Reds.
REDS RALLY PAST KOPPEL, 5-4, IN BOTTOM OF 7TH INNING TO WIN 2ND ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Reds rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to slip past Koppel, 5-4, to win the 2nd Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Ewing Park Field. Steve Pavick erased a 4-3 Koppel lead with a two-run single to provide the winning margin. Chuck Belonzi and Jim Potter led the Reds with two-singles. Al Barbati had a two-run triple for the Reds. Terry Mack was the winning pitche n relief. Jeff Shablesky singled twice for Koppel.

SCHUSTER, BUKAC LEAD CUBS OVER KOPPEL, 1-0, IN OPENER OF 3RD ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
The Cubs edged Koppel, 1-0, in the opening game of the 3rd Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Koppel. The Cubs' Del Schuster hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning for the game's only run. Winning pitcher Jerry Bukac threw a five-hitter and fanned seven batters for the Cubs. Cubs' catcher Dave Blazin blocked two potential Koppel runners from scoring at the plate. Jeff Shablesky fired a two-hitter for Koppel. Pete Pietrandrea doubled twice for Koppel and Gil Burchart add a triple.
CUBS DOWN KOPPEL, 3-0, BEHIND BABCOCK ONE-HITTER TO WIN 3RD ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Bob Babcock fired a one-hitter to lead the Cubs to a 3-0 victory over Koppel to win the 3rd Ellwood City Colt League Championship at Ewing Park Field. The win completed a two-game sweep for the Cubs in the best-of-three series. Winning pitcher Babcock fanned nine of the first ten batters and finished with 15 strikeouts. Jeff Shablesky tossed a four-hitter for Koppel.

REDS EDGE CUBS, 3-2, IN OPENER 4TH ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
The Reds edged the Cubs, 3-2, in the opening game of the Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Ewing Park Field. The win gave the Reds a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Winning pitcher Don Wick threw 6-1/3 innings for the Reds. Stan Conti secured the win with 2/3 innings of work. Conti rapped a two-run triple and Andy Newton added an RBI-triple for the Reds.

The Reds defeated the Cubs, 7-0, to win the 4th Ellwood City Colt League Championship at Ewing Park Field. The Reds, managed by Ted Sowash, swept the best-of-three series, two games to none. Winning pitcher Ted Wehman fired a one-hitter and fanned 13 batters for the Reds. Mike Manzo had two singles and Don Wick had a two-run double to lead the Reds.

SHENANGO DOWNS KOPPEL, 5-1, BEHIND HUDAK IN OPENER OF 5TH ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
Shenango downed Koppel, 5-1, in the opening game of the 5th Ellwood City Colt League Championship. The win gave Shenango a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Winning pitcher Joe Hudak tossed a three-hitter and allowed an unearned run. Tim Price, Jim Smiley and Nick Stroia each singled twice for Shenango. Don Scarazzo added a two-run single.
LAWSON LEADS KOPPEL OVER SHENANGO, 5-0, TO TIE 5TH ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Rich Lawson fired a two-hit shutout to lead Koppel to a 5-0 win over Shenango in the 5th Ellwood City Colt League Championship. The win knotted the best-of-three series at one game apiece. Winning pitcher Lawson fanned 13 batters. Bill D'Amico singled twice and drove in two runs. Rick Bender added a triple.
KOPPEL DEFEATS SHENANGO, 3-1, TO WIN 5TH ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP BEHIND LAWSON
Koppel defeated Shenango, 3-1, to win the 5th Ellwood City Colt League Championship. The win gave Koppel the best-of-three series, two games to one. Winning pitcher Rich Lawson fired a one-hitter for Koppel. Sam Fidell rapped a two-run single to lead Koppel at the plate.
ELLWOOD CITY AMERICANS DEFEAT HIGHLAND, 4-1, BEHIND WILLIAMS TO WIN ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
The Ellwood City Americans defeated Highland, 4-1, to win the Ellwood City Colt League Tournament. Winning pitcher Mark Williams hurled a two-hitter for the Ellwood City Americans. Dale Zeh led the Ellwood City Americans with three singles. Wayne Thornhill added an RBI-single.

KOPPEL DOWNS WAMPUM, 7-3, BEHIND BAT, ARM OF NARDONE TO WIN 6TH ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES OPENER
Koppel downed Wampum, 7-3, in the opening game of the 6th Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series opening game. The win gave Koppel a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Chuck Nardone led Koppel at the plate with a home run, triple and double. Winning pitcher Nardone fired a two-hitter for Koppel.
KOPPEL DEFEATS WAMPUM, 7-1, BEHIND LAWSON TO WIN 6TH ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
Koppel defeated Wampum, 7-1, to win the 6th Ellwood City Colt League championship. Koppel, managed by Joe Nardone, won the best-of-three series, two games to none. Rich Lawson led Koppel at the plate with two doubles and a single. Winning pitcher Bob Botte threw four innings for Koppel. Lawson threw the last three innings and fanned six batters.

The Astros edged the Reds, 2-1, in the opening game of the 7th Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Sanders Field. The win gave the Astros a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Bill Gottuso's single drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Astros. Winning pitcher Jeff Potter scattered six hits and fanned 13 batters for the Astros. Dave Tammaro tossed a four-hitter for the Reds. Brian Conti led the Reds with a double and single. Tammaro added two singles.

The Reds scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to slip by the Astros, 4-3, in the Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Sanders Field. The win tied the best-of-three series at one game apiece. The Reds scored the winning run when Jeff Markle tripled and Don Coulter singled him in to break 3-3 deadlock. Markle led the Reds with a triple and single. Winning pitcher John Kish tossed a six-hitter for the Reds.

Behind the arm and bat of John Kish, the Reds edged the Cubs, 3-2, in the opening game of the 8th Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Sanders Field. Winning pitcher Kish fired a two-hitter and fanned nine batters. At the plate, Kish doubled and singled twice to lead the Reds. Tony Giorgi and Curt Fitzgerald singled twice for the Reds. Mark Hutchison scattered eight hits for the Cubs and added a double.

The Cubs edged the Reds, 9-8, in extra innings in the 8th Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Koppel Field. The win tied the best-of-three series at one game apiece. The Cubs scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. With one out, Don Mancini doubled and pinch-runner Scott Tritt moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt. Joe Mancini's two-out bunt single scored Tritt with the winning run. Winning pitcher Ed Romanoski scattered five hits for the Cubs. Romanoski led the Cubs at the plate with a triple, single and three RBI. Kim Foley singled twice and Don Mancini added a double.

The Cubs downed the Reds, 7-3, to win the 8th Ellwood City Colt League Championship. The Cubs, managed by Joe Mancini, won the best-of-three series, two games to one. The underdog Cubs won their final four regular season games to finish 9-9 to gain the final playoff spot. Winning pitcher Mark Hutchison tossed a seven-hitter for the Cubs. Phil Lagana led the Cubs with a double and a single. Joe Mancini and Paul Crofton singled twice for the Cubs. John Kish doubled for the Reds.

The Cubs broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the sixth inning. Wining pitcher Mark Hutchison scatterd seven hits without an earned run. Paul Martin led the Cubs with a double and single. Marty Lample singled twice and Ed Romanoski smacked a triple.

Winning pitcher Jesseman fired a two-hitter and fanned 12 batters. Dave Vetica led Frisco with a two-run homer and a single. Jesseman hit a three-run homer and Jim Gilleland belted a two-run homer.

Frisco downed Northeastern, 6-3, to win the 13th Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Riverside High School. Frisco, managed by Pat White, won the best-of-three series, two games to one. Winning pitcher Jesseman tossed a five-hitter for Frisco. Jesseman led Frisco at the plate with two doubles. Jim Gilleland singled twice and Dave Vetica and Dave Tillia doubled for Frisco.

NORTHEASTERN SLIPS BY RIVERSIDE, 4-3, IN OPENER OF 13TH ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Northeastern slipped by Riverside, 4-3, in the opening game of the 13th Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Sanders Field. The victory gave Northeastern a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Northeastern rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit. After a scoreless first inning, Northeastern scored two runs in the top of the second inning. Butch Rombold singled and Ernie Heyman reached on a fielder's choice forcing Rombold. Rick Pflug walked and Dennis Palmer followed with atrile to right field scoring both runners to give Northwestern a 2-0 lead. Riverside scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jim Brown walked, moved to second base on a ground out, moved to third base on an error and scored on Dale Lipan's single to slice the deficit to 2-1. Riverside took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brad Brown walked and moved to second on a ground out. Jim Brown was walked intentionally and Jeff Pasquale singled to left field and both runners came around to score to give Riverside a 3-2 lead. Northeastern scored the game-winning runs in the top of the sixth inning. Bob Taylor walked and stole second base. Heyman reached on an error scoring Taylor to tie the score at 3-3. With Heyman at second base, Pflug singed to score Taylor to give Northeastern a 4-3 lead. Pflug relieved for Northeastern in the bottom of the sixth inning and fanned five Riverside batters in the final two innings. Curt Baumgardner was the winning pitcher for Northeastern with five innings of work. Pflug allowed one hit and fanned five batters in two innings to gain the save. Palmer led Northeastern with a triple and two RBI. Jeff Pasquale led Riverside with a triple and single with two RBI.
RIVERSIDE EDGES NORTHEASTERN, 8-7, IN EIGHT INNINGS TO TIE 14TH ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES-RIVERSIDE RALLIES FOR THREE RUNS IN SEVENTH INNING WITH TWO OUTS TO FORCE EXTRA INNINGS
Riverside edged Northeastern, 8-7, in eight innings in the 14th Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Sanders Field. The victory knotted the best-of-three series at one game apiece. Riverside rallied for three runs with two outs in the seventh inning to force extra innings. Riverside scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to break a 6-6 deadlock to take an 8-6 lead. Northeastern scored a solo run in the bottom of the inning to fall one run short of tying the game. Northeastern opened a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Bill Donley singled, stole second base and scored on an RBI-single by Steve Martin. Northeastern added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Rick Pflug singled and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Pflug moved to third base on a wild pitch. Curt Baumgardner walked and stole second base. On a delayed steal, Pflug scored to give Northeastern a 2-0 lead. Baumgardner scored on two ground outs to up the lead to 3-0. Riverside scored a run in the top of the third inning. Brad Brown walked, stole second base and scored on a double by Randy Ostrom to cut the deficit to 3-1. In the fourth inning, Riverside added another run. Jay Prawucki walked, stole second base, moved to third base on a wild pitch and scored on Craig Pensy's squeeze bunt to make the score 3-2. Riverside tied the score in the top of the fifth inning on a double by Jim Brown and a single by Jeff Pasquale to tie the score at 3-3. Northeastern took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth inning when Bill Donley reached on an error, stole second base and scored on a single by Martin to take a 4-3 lead. Northeastern added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Pflug reached on a two-base error and scored on Dennis Palmer's RBI-single to open up a 5-3 lead. Two errors and a ground out scored Palmer to increase the lead to 6-3. Riverside followed with a dramatic two-out rally to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning. Jeff Russell singled and was pinch-run for by Stan Kulesza. Pinch-hitter Perry Cotherman walked and Dale Lipan doubled scoring Kulesza to cut the deficit to 6-4. Brad Brown followed with a triple scoring Cotherman and Lipan to tie the game at 6-6. Northwestern failed to score forcing extra innings. In the top of the eighth inning, Riverside scored twice to take their first lead of the game. Jim Brown walked and took second base on a wild pitch. Jeff Pasquale singled and moved to second base on the throw to the plate. Chris Loccisano followed with a key two-run single to give Riverside an 8-6 lead. Northeastern scored a solo run in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to 8-7 before the rally came to an end. Lipan was the winning pitcher for Riverside with 6-2/3 innings of relief. He allowed one earned run and fanned eight batters. Pasquale led Riverside with two singles and a RBI. Brad Brown smacked a triple with two RBI. Lipan and Ostrom rapped RBI-doubles and Jim Brown doubled. Loccisano singled with two RBI. Martin led Northeastern with three singles and an RBI.
RIVERSIDE DEFEATS NORTHWESTERN, 13-0, TO WIN 14TH ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
Riverside defeated Northwestern, 13-0, to win the 14th Ellwood City Colt League Championship at Sanders Field. Riverside, managed by Rich Ostrom, won the best-of-three series, two games to one. Riverside took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Brad Brown walked, stole second and third base and scored on a groundout. In the second inning, Craig Pensy tripled and scored on a fielder's choice to take a 2-0 lead. Riverside scored nine runs in the bottom of the third inning to pull away from Northwestern. A Jim Brown single, two errors and three walks gave Riverside a 5-0 lead. Brad Brown singled in a run to up the lead to 6-0. Randy Ostrom followed with a three-run triple to increase the lead to 9-0. Jim Brown followed with another triple to up the score to 10-0. Dale Lipan singled scoring Brown to up the lead to 11-0. In the bottom of the fourth inning an RBI-single by Ostrom raise the lead to 12-0 and invoked the 12-run rule. Winning pitcher Jeff Pasquale tossed a three-hit shutout in five innings of work. Ostrom led Riverside with a triple, single and four RBI. Jim Brown tripled and singled and Brad Brown singled twice.

Wampum edged Northeastern, 3-2, to win the 15th Ellwood City Colt League Championship at Sanders Field. Wampum, managed by Sonny King, won the best-of-three series, two games to none. Northeastern took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and held the lead for four innings. In the bottom of the fifth inning Wampum rallied for three runs to take the lead. Rob Ferrucci led off with a walk and Len Leiper reached on a fielder's choice. Mike Capalbo followed with a two-run triple to tie the score at 2-2. Capalbo scored on an error to give Wampum a 3-2 lead. Neither team scored the rest of the way and Wampum captured the title. Winning pitcher Doug Curry hurled a two-hitter for Wampum. Rick Pflug threw a three-hitter for Northeastern. Capalbo led Wampum with a triple and two RBI. Pflug led Northeastern with two singles.

FIRST SENECA WINS 16TH ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
First Seneca won the 16th Ellwood City Colt League Championship. First Seneca, managed by Bruce Davidson, won the regular season crown with a 15-1 record. Riverside finished in second place with a 10-6 record. First Seneca won their first playoff series in two games against Wur-Ell. Due to the beginning of varsity football practice, the final series was not completed.

HOGE FIRES NO-HITTER TO LEAD RIVERSIDE OVER AETNA, 2-1, IN OPENING GAME OF 17TH ELLWOOD CITY COLT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Bob Hoge fired a no-hitter to lead Riverside over Aetna, 2-1, in the opening game of the 17th Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Sanders Field. The win gave Riverside a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. Riverside took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Jon Cowdery walked, stole second base and scored on a single by Jere Estabrook to take a 1-0 lead. Aetna tied the score in the top of the second inning. Rick Raman walked, went to second base on a passed ball and scored on an error to knot the score at 1-1. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Riverside scored the winning run. Scott Vannoy and Phil Eonta drew base on balls. After a passed ball, Cowdery hit a sacrifice fly scoring Vannoy to give Riverside a 2-1 lead. Winning pitcher Hoge fanned six batters in his no-hit victory. Rick Raman allowed three hits for Aetna in six innings of work.

Riverside defeated Aetna, 15-1, to win the 17th Ellwood City Colt League Championship at Sanders Field. Riverside won the best-of-three series, two games to none. Riverside took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on singles by Bob Hoge, Jon Cowdery and a two-run double by Steve Kuel. After a scoreless second inning, Aetna cut the deficit with a run in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI-triple by Carl Altman. Riverside took command of the game with five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Hoge drove in two runs to up the Riverside lead to 4-1. Steve Kuel singled in Hoge to increase the lead to 5-1. Jere Estabrook followed with a two-run homer to raise the lead to 7-1. In the fifth inning, Riverside added two more runs. Jon Cowdery rapped an RBI-double and Hoge an RBI-single to up the lead to 9-1. Riverside added three more runs in the sixth inning and two more runs in the seventh inning to account for the final margin of 15-1. Winning pitcher Estabrook fanned 12 batters for Riverside. Hoge led Riverside at the plate with a double and two singles. Cowdery added a double and single. Estabrook smacked a two-run homer. Altman led Aetna with a triple.

Both teams scored a run in the third inning to make the score 4-1. After a scoreless fourth inning, Riverside Mark & Bob's added a solo tally in the fifth inning to decrease the deficit to 4-4. Mike Boyan smacked a home run in the ninth inning to lead Canonsburg to a 7-6 win over Ellwood City, in the Colt League World Series Area Tournament at Canonsburg. Ellwood City scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings.
After a scoreless first inning, Canonsburg scored three runs in top of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Ellwood City responded with two runs. Curt Agostinelli walked and scored on Hal McClean's double to cut the deficit to 2-1. Two walks and a fielder's choice scored McClean to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Canonsburg added a solo run in the fifth inning to up their lead lead to 4-2. Ellwood City decreased the deficit to 4-3 on a single by Bill Reeher and an RBI-triple by Buddy Emerick. Larry Rice two-run triple gave Canonsburg a 6-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning. Ellwood City rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game. Key doubles by Chad Dwyer and Jason Morrison allowed Ellwood City to tie the score at 6-6 and force extra innings. After a scoreless eighth inning, Boyan lead off the ninth inning with the game-winning home run.

Ellwood City defeated Peters Township, 5-3, in the Colt League World Series Area Tournament at Canonsburg. Ellwood City opened up a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning and held on for the victory.
After a scoreless first inning, ELLwood City took the lead in the top of the second inning. Jim Hendrickson walked, stole second and third base and scored on a fielder's choice to take a 1-0 lead. Peters Township scored a solo run in the bottom of the third inning to knot the score a 1-1. Ellwood City took the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Hal McClean singled, stole second base and scored on an RBI-single by Curt Agostinelli to take a 2-1 lead. Ellwood City added two more runs in the fifth inning. Buddy Emerick singled and scored on Tony Joseph's double to give Ellwood City a 3-1 lead. Hendrickson singled in Joseph to up the Ellwood City lead to 5-1. Canonsburg added solo runs in the sixth and seventh innings to account for the 5-3 final score.
Starting and winning pitcher Jason Morrison was threw four innings and fanned five batters. Todd Kellner picked up the save with three innings of work. Ellwood City took a lead in the top of the first inning. Chad Dwyer walked and Buddy Emerick singled Dwyer to third base. Tony Joseph followed with a single scoring Dwyer to give Ellwood City a 1-0 lead. Canonsburg erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third inning to open up a 5-1 lead. Ellwood City erupted for three runs in the top of the third inning to cut the deficit to one run. Dwyer singled in a run and Emerick's two-run triple cut the Canonsburg lead to 5-4.
In the top of the fourth inning, Ellwood City knotted the score. Hal McClean tripled and scored on an RBI-single by Curt Agostinelli to tie the game at 5-5. Canonsburg retook the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 7-5 lead. Jim Hendrickson reached on an error, stole second base, went to third base on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Curt Agostinelli to cut the deficit to 7-6. In the top of the sixth inning, Ellwood City scored twice to take the lead. Dwyer doubled and Bill Reeher singled to place runners on first and third base. Joseph followed with a triple scoring both runners to give Ellwood City an 8-7 lead. But Canonsburg scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to retake the lead at 9-8. Ellwood Ciy failed to score in the top of the seventh inning.
Todd Kelley was the winning pitcher in relief for Canonsburg. Ron Falcione and Tom Hardoby led Canonsburg with two singles apiece. Dwyer led Ellwood City with a double, two singles and a walk. Canonsburg won the area tournament and advanced to the Section Tournament in Marietta, Ohio.

Joe DeCaria and Mike Williams singled and moved into scoring position on a ground out. John Pavick followed with a two-right single to give Ellwood City a 2-1 lead. New Castle retook the lead in the top of the fourth inning with a four-run rally. Lee Thompson led off the inning with a solo home run to tie the score at 2-2. A walk, two singles and two errors added three more runs to up the lead to 5-2. Ellwood City tied the score with a three-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ellwood City scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat New Castle, 5-2, in the Colt League World Series Area Tournament at Flaherty Field in New Castle. Craig Mills broke the deadlock with a two-out two run single to give Ellwood City the lead. John Pavick picked up the win and Tim Sheeler smacked three singles to lead Ellwood City.
Ellwood City opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Pavick drove in Randy Chesko who walked and Sheeler singled to give Ellwood City a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, New Castle sliced the lead to 2-1 on an RBI-single by Bob Ekiert. After two scoreless innings, New Castle tied the score on an unearned run to knot the game at 2-2. Neither team scored the next three innings to force the game into extra innings. In the top of the eighth inning, with Dave Tillia, Chesko and Sheeler on base for Ellwood City, Mills two-out, two-run single scored Tillia and Chesko to give Ellwood City a 4-2 lead. Sheeler scored on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 5-2. New Castle failed to score in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The win gave First Western a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. Hamilton & Spokane and First Western both scored two runs in the first inning knot the score at 2-2. After three scoreless innings, the game remained tied at 2-2. In the fifth inning, First Western scored three runs to open up a 5-2 lead. Hamilton & Spokane scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to narrow the lead to 5-4. Hamilton & Spokane failed to score in the top of the seventh inning. Winning pitcher Rocky Carsele fired a two-hitter and fanned 11 batters for First Western. Scott LaPenta hurled a two-hitter and struck out 13 batters for Hamilton & Spokane. Mike Shuttleworth led First Western with a double and Brian Rubino singled with an RBI. LaPenta tripled and Tim Hrabosky singled for Hamilton & Spokane.

First Western, managed by Pat Boyle, won the best-of-three series, two games to none. First Western opened up a 7-1 lead after two innings and added two more runs in the fourth inning to raise the lead to 9-1. In the sixth inning, First Western scored three runs to up the lead to 14-2. The ten-run rule was invoked after the sixth inning. Mike Shuttleworth led First Western with a triple and three singles and four RBI. Ed Prence added three singles and drove in three runs. Mike Sedgwick rapped three singles with two RBI. Pat Boyle doubled and singled and drove in three runs. Brooks LeViere led Hamilton & Spokane with two singles. Winning pitcher Boyle hurled a five-hitter with seven strikeouts.

First Western scored the game-winning in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Hamilton & Spokane, 2-1, in the opening game of the 36th Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Sanders Field. The win gave First Western a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. After three scoreless innings, First Western broke the deadlock in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs, Kevin Ricciuti singled and Mike Sedgwick followed with a double to take a 1-0 lead. In the top of the sixth inning, Hamilton & Spokane scored an unearned run to tie the game at 1-1. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Bill Boy reached on a fielder's choice before two intentional walks were issued to load the bases. Boy scpred on a passed ball to give First Western the victory. Winning pitcher Kevin Ricciuti hurled a five-hitter and fanned 11 batters. Matt Loccisano allowed one earned run and fanned five batters for Hamilton & Spokane. Hamilton & Spokane added three more runs in the bottom of the inning to increase their lead to 12-7. Brooks LeViere lead Hamilton & Spokane with a triple, double and two RBI. Aaron Snider smacked a three-run home run and Matt Loccisano rapped a double and single. Tom Shablesky added a triple. Bill Boy led First Western with a triple and single and two RBI. Hamilton & Spokane took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on singles by Kyle Hlebinsky and Matt Loccisano and an RBI-single by Aaron Snider. In the bottom of the inning for First Western after two walks, Brian Rubino singled to tie the score at 1-1. Bill Boy singled and Mike Sedgwick followed with a single to give First Western a 2-1 lead. After Hamilton & Spokane tied the score in the top of the second inning at 2-2, First Western scored four runs keyed by singles by Kyle Hazen, Kevin Ricciuti and Sedgwick to open a 6-2 lead. In the fifth inning, Hamilton & Spokane rallied for three runs. Snider smacked an RBI-double and Steve Kimmel and Josh Dragich rapped RBI-singles to slice the lead to 6-5. In the top of the sixth inning, Hamilton & Spokane scored two unearned runs to take a 7-6 lead. First Western rallied to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, Mike MacDonald doubled and Josh Genova singled to tie the score at 7-7. Genova went to second base on the throw and after a walk, both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Bob Boyle then grounded into a fielder's choice with Genova beating the throw to the plate to give First Western an 8-7 win and the crown. Ricciuti led First Western with a double and single. Sedgwick singled twice with two RBI and Rubino added two singles. MacDonald added a double. Dragich led Hamilton & Spokane with two singles. Sedgwick was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts in two innings of relief.

Kevin Ricciuti threw a five-hitter and Josh Genova belted a two-run hom run to lead Uniglobe to a 4-1 win over Ellwood Ambulance in the opening game of the 37th Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Sanders Field. The win gave Uniglobe a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. Ellwood Ambulance took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI-single by Bill Kelly. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Uniglobe took a 2-1 lead on a two-run homer by Genova over the rightfield fence. Uniglobe added an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning to widen the lead to 3-1. In the sixth inning, Uniglobe upped the lead to 4-1 when Ricciuti walked, stole second base and scored on Aaron Lillibridge's RBI-single. Winning pitcher Ricciuti scattered five hits and fanned 10 batters. Jason Hazen threw a three-hitter and whiffed six batters. Lillibridge led Uniglobe with two singles. Kelly singled twice for Ellwood Ambulance.

Uniglobe took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on RBI-singles by Bill Orock and Bill Boy. Ellwood Ambulance got a run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI-single by Bill Kelly to cut the deficit to 2-1. Uniglobe added a run in the top of the third inning to up the lead to 3-1. In the bottom of the inning, after Ellwood Ambulance tied the game at 3-3, Matt Hunter's single gave Ellwood Ambulance a 4-3 lead. Uniglobe tied the score at 4-4 with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Ellwood Ambulance broke the tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 7-4 lead. Jason Hazen led Ellwood Ambulance with three singles. Kelly added a double and a single. Kevin Ricciuti, Mike MacDonald and Bill Boy singled twice for Uniglobe. Winning pitcher Tony Cunningham scattered eight hits and fanned 10 batters.

Ellwood Ambulance scored 12 runs in the top of the first inning and defeated Uniglobe, 12-2, to win the 37th Ellwood City Colt League Championship at Sanders Field. Elwood Ambulance, managed by Scott Hazen, won the best-of-three series two games to one. Matt Hunter tossed a four-hitter and Rick Larkin and Jason Hazen ripped three hits to lead Ellwood Ambulance. Ellwood Ambualnce opened the game with a 12-run explosion and never looked back. The inning highlights included: Larkin driving in three runs with two singles and Hazen with two singles an an RBI; Hunter smacking a two-run homer; Darin Sharek, Mark D'Amico and Chris Ferruchie hitting RBI-singles; and singles by Todd Cucunato and Joe Polansky. Uniglobe scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a walk to Mike Pronesti, a single by Kevin Ricciutti and a two-run double by Dave Ottavio to make the final margin 12-2. Alex Drogowski rapped three hits and drove in all five runs to lead McElwain Motors to a 5-2 win over Medevac in the opening game of the 38th Ellwood City Colt League Championship Series at Sanders Field. The win gave McElwain Motors a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. Medevac held a 2-0 lead before Drogowski's RBI-double sliced the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning. After a scoreless third inning, McElwain's loaded the bases on singles by Derick Davare and Mike Fidell and a walk to Eric Boariu. Drogowski followed with a bases-clearing double to give McElwain Motors a 4-2 lead. In the sixth inning, McElwain Motors added an insurance run. Charlie Kennedy singled, moved to second base on a wild pitch and scored on Drogowski's RBI-single to make the final margin 5-2. Drogowski led McElwain's with two doubles, a single and five RBI. Mike Fidell and Kennedy singled twice. Jay Cortez tripled and singled to lead Medevac. Adam Gorgas added a triple. Winning pitcher Fidell threw a five-hitter and fanned seven batters.

McElwain Motors added three more runs in the fourth inning to open a 7-0 lead. McElwain Motors held an 11-2 lead before scoring five runs in the top of the seventh to increse their lead to 16-2. Winning pitcher Theron Colao hurled a six-hitter and fanned seven batters. Derrick Davare and Mike Fidell led McElwain Motors with a double and two singles. Colao added two singles. Andrew DeMase led Medevac with two singles. Adam Gorgas added a triple.

Andrew Hiser rapped a double for T & Hardware. Jay Cortez doubled and singled twice for Medevac.

The win gave Medevac a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. Both teams scored a run in the first inning before Medevac took a 2-1 lead with a run the third inning. Medevac increased their lead to 4-1 with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. McElwain Motors rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 6-4 lead. Medevac retook the lead at 7-6 with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. After a scoreless sixth inning, McElwain Motors rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jaime Joseph drew a leadoff walk and stole second and third base. Matt Davis reached on an infield single scoring Joseph to knot the score at 7-7. Davis stole
second base and scored on Chris Bond's single to rightfield to win the game. Davis led McElwain Motors with three singles. Trey McKim led Medevac with three singles. Joseph was the winning pitcher with four innings of relief with five strikeouts.

McElwain Motors, managed by Dave Ottavio, won the best-of-three series, two games to none. McElwain Motors took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Medevac cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning. Josh Powell's RBI-single gave McElwain Motors a 3-1 in the top of the second inning. McElwain Motors led 4-1 in the third inning before Medevac scored twice in the bottom of the inning to slice the deficit to 4-3. McElwain Motors scored three runs in the fourth inning that included RBI-singles by Aaron Mazzant and Cody Salter to take a 7-3 lead. Medevac rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Singles by Jack Maine, Jeff Vitale, a two-run triple by Nick Nardone and Jordan Ottavio's RBI-single narrowed the deficit to 7-6. Medevac scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning on Kregg Buffone's triple and Mark Mason's RBI-single to tie the score at 7-7. After a scoreless seventh inning the game went to extra innings. Tynan Hudson led off the top of the eighth inning for McElwain Motors with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. T & M Hardware downed McElwain's, 6-4, in the opening game of the 41st Ellwood City Colt League Championship at Sanders Field. The victory gave T & M Hardware a one-game lead in the best-of-three series. T & M Hardware broke a 4-4 deadlock with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. McElwain's scored two runs in the first inning. Jake Funk had an RBI-single and an error to give McElwain's a 2-0 lead. T & M Hardware scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead. A wild pitch scored one run and Joe Yarzebinski's two-run single gave T & M a 3-2 lead. McElwain's regained the lead with two runs in the top of the third inning to regain the lead at 4-3. In the bottom of the fourth inning, T & M's Jonathan Minnocci singled, moved to second base on an error, moved to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a fielder's choice to knot the score at 4-4. In the bottom of the sixth inning, T & M scored twice to take the lead for good. A fieldr's choice and an RBI-single by Mark DeCaro gave T & M a 6-4 lead. McElwain's failed to score in the top of the seventh inning to give T & M the victory and a one-game lead in the series. T & M Hardware scored three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to raise their lead to 11-7. In the bottom of the sixth inning Brett Evans led off with a walk for McElwain Motors. McElwains added a single run in the second and third innings to up the lead to 5-0. McElwain's scored another solo run in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead McElwain's scored its' final run in the top of the sixth inning to increase their lead to 7-0. T & M rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 7-4. T & M failed to score in the bottom of the seventh inning as the title went to McElwain Motors. Bennett led McElwain's with three singles and scored three runs. Aaron Mazzant singled twice and Brett Evans added a double. Mark Rosenberg led T & M Hardware with a triple and single. Mike Winters doubled and single and Jonathan Minnocci added two singles. Jeff Vitale and Scott Post added triples and Joe Yarzebinski added a double. Starting and winning pitcher Brandon LeViere threw four scoreless innings and fanned five batters. Jake Funk picked up the save by pitching out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning and nailing the last three outs in the seventh inning.
