Steve Calabrese was hit by a pitch and Fred Peluso singled. Joe Hudak sliced a double down the right field line scoring Calabrese. With one out, Bob Peterson walked to load the bases. But a pop-up and strikeout ended the inning. After a scoreless sixth inning, Volant mounted one final threat in the top of the seventh inning. Hudak walked and Jerry Dubrasky singled to runners at first and second base. An ensuing argument that began with the umpire turned into a brawl between both teams and their fans. After order was restored by police, the league commissioner suspended the game till the next night. When play resumed, Ellwood City retired the final three batters to complete the 4-1 win. Winning pitcher Don Mancini allowed four hits over six innings. Mancini was relieved by Pisano with two batters on base when the fracus began. When play resumed the next day, Keith Foley relieved Pisano with a 2-0 count on the batter and recorded the first out of the inning. Joe Williams, the fourth pitcher in the seventh inning for Ellwood City, retired the final two batters. Losing pitcher John Munnell was relieved by Hudak, who threw 3-2/3 innings of hitless relief. Nardone led Ellwood City with two singles and two RBI. Hudak led Volant with a double.
