NESHANNOCK RALLIES IN LAST AT BAT TO EDGE LAUREL, 7-6, TO WIN 73RD ELLWOOD CITY LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT-PONZIANI'S WALKOFF SINGLE WINS TITLE-NESHANNOCK WINS FIRST CROWN SINCE 2015
Neshannock rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge Laurel, 7-6, to win the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Sunday night. Gabe Ponziani ripped a single off the centerfield fence to score Ty Cook with the game-winning hit. Neshannock, after losing their opening game, reeled off six straight wins to win the title. Neshannock, managed by Benny Rizzo, won its' first Ellwood City Little League Tournament crown since 2015.
Laurel got on the board first with a solo run in the top of the first inning. T.J. McVay and Carson Mahoney drew a base on balls. With wo outs, Luca Loccisano singled to right field scoring McVay to give Laurel a 1-0 lead. Laurel added to their lead with two more runs in the top of the second inning. Wyatt Nagel walked and Rowan Richards doubled to right field scoring Nagel to increase Laurel's lead to 2-0. Brayden Presnar laced a single to right field scoring Richards as Laurel opened up a 3-0 lead. Neshannock got a run back in the bottom of the second inning. Bean Owens led off the inning with a double. After a strikeout and a groundout, Ponziani singled in Owens to cut the defict to 3-1. Laurel added a solo run in the top of the third inning. McVay led off the inning with a walk and moved to second base on a passed ball. On Mahoney's long fly out, McVay tagged up and advanced to third base. Luca Benedict grounded out scored McVay as Laurel opened up a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Neshannock rallied for three runs to tie the score. Alex Paglia led off with a single and Ty Cook drew a walk. Owens reached on a fielder's choice forcing Cook out at second base. Jaydon Tedrow followed with a single scoring Paglia to cut the deficit to 4-2. Luca Perrotta doubled to right field scoring Owens to make the score 4-3. Ponzioni's ground out scored Tedrow to knot the score at 4-4.
Laurel broke the tie in the top of the fifth inning. Presnar led off with a walk and after a long fly out by Courson, McVay followed with a single to put two runners om base. Carson Mahoney followed with a double scoring Presnar and McVay to give Laurel a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Neshannock scored a run to narrow the Laurel lead to one run. Jack Harlan led off the inning with a triple. With one out, David Jimm hit a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 6-5. Laurel almost added to their lead with a walk to Richards, a single by Parker Benton and a walk to Caydon Houck. But a runner caught stealing and a strikeout ended the threat. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Neshannock rallied to win the title. Paglia led off with a single to right field. Cook followed with a walk sending Paglia to second base. Owens followed with a hard ground ball single to right field scoring Paglia to tie the score at 6-6. Owens stole second base before Tedrow walked on a 3-2 pitch to load the bases. Luca Perrotta bounced a grounder that hit Tedrow running to second base which retired Tedrow and placed Perrotta at first base. With the bases loaded, Ponzioni smacked a line drive over the drawn-in outfield that bounced off the center field fence scoring Cook to win the title.
Owens and Perrotta led Neshannock with a double and single and an RBI. Ponzioni singled twice with three RBI including the game-winner. Paglia singled twice, Harlan tripled and and Trey Kissick added a double. Tedrow singled and walked, Yuriah Hughes singled and Cook drew two base on balls. Richards led Laurel with a double, two walks and an RBI. Mahoney doubled, walked with two RBI. Presnar singled, walked twice and drove in a run. Loccisano singled with an RBI and Parker Benton added a single. Owens was the winning pitcher in relief for Neshannock. He faced one batter and notched a strike out. Presnar allowed one run in three innings for Laurel with five strikeouts.
JOEY ZITO WINS 23RD ELLWOOD CITY LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT HOME RUN DERBY
Ellwood City's Joey Zito won the the 23rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament Home Run Derby at Freidhoff Field. Zito launched eight home runs to defeat 29 other contestants from the tournament. Ty Cook of Neshannock was the runner-up with four home runs.
NESHANNOCK DEFEATS LAUREL, 14-1, IN CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND OF 73RD ELLWOOD CITY LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT TO FORCE FINAL GAME-NESHANNOCK RAPS 13 HITS
Neshannock defeated Laurel, 14-1, in the championship round of the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Freidhoff Field. The victory handed Laurel their first loss of the tournament and forced a final game on Sunday night. Neshannock pounded out 13 hits on the way to the victory.
Neshannock jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Jack Rizzo led off the game with a double and Alex Paglia followed with another double to give Neshannock a 1-0 lead. A walk to Ty Cook and a passed ball moved both runners up a base. Paglia scored on a wild pitch and Luca Perrotta followed with an RBI-single to up the lead to 3-0. Laurel scored a solo run in the bottom of the third inning on a bases-loaded walk to Carson Mahoney to cut the deficit to 3-1. Neshannock rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth inning to open up a 7-1 lead. Neshannock erupted for seven more runs in the top of the fifth inning to increase the lead to 14-1. The inning was capped by a solo home run by Yuriah Hughes. Laurel failed to score in the bottom of the fifth inning and the ten-run rule was invoked by the umpires.
Perrotta led the Neshannock attack with three singles and three RBI. Bean Owens doubled, singled and drove in three runs. Jayden Tedrow doubled and singled with an RBI. Rizzo doubled and walked twice .Danny Schachern singled twice with an RBI. Paglia doubled and walked with an RBi. Hughes homered with an RBI, David Jim singled and Cook walked twice. Nick Courson doubled and singled to lead Laurel. Mahoney doubled and walkedand Wyatt Nagel added a single. Cook was the starting and winning pitcher. He allowed one run on two hits and fanned seven batters in three innings of work.
NESHANNOCK DOWNS ELLWOOD CITY, 5-2, IN 73RD ELLWOOD CITY LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT-OWENS FANS EIGHT IN THREE-INNING RELIEF GEM-KISSICK , RIZZO, SCHACHERN, OWENS STAR ON OFFENSE
Backed by a relief gem by Bean Owens, Neshannock downed Ellwood City, 5-2, in the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Saturdday night at Freidhoff Field. Owens retired nine straight batters, eight by strikeout, to save the victory for Neshannock. Trey Kissick smacked a two-run homer and Jack Rizzo, Danny Schachern and Owens all doubled and singled to lead Neshannock.
Ellwood City opened the scoring in the top of te first inning. Luca Smith led off with a double A ground out and a fielder's choice by Joey Zito scored Smith to give Ellwood City a 1-0 lead. Neshannock tied the score in the bottom of the inning. Jack Rizzo led off with a line-drive single of the pitcher and advanced to second base on an ensuing error. Rizzo stole third base and scored on a groundout by Paglia to knot the score at 1-1. Ellwood City regained the lead in the top of the second inning. Branden Bushman walked with two outs. Bushman stole second base and on the errant throw scoredgive Ellwood City a 2-1 lead. Neshannock threatened to score in the bottom of the second inning but a double play by second baseman Isaiah Thompson to shortstop Shane Leavens to first baseman Henrii Larkin ended the threat. Neshannock scored twice in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead. Jack Harlan walked and Trey Kissick followed with a towering homer to give Neshannock a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Neshannock added to their lead. Bean Owens doubled , Gabe Ponziani was hit by a pitch and Yuriah Hughes' singled scoring Ownes to raise the lead to 4-2. Neshannock added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning. After Ellwood City turned their second double play of the game, Rizzo walked and stole seond base. Rizzo moved to third base on a passed ball and scored on a dropped third strike to give Neshannock a 5-2 lead. Ellwood City failed to score in the sixth inning.
Schachern and Owens led Neshannock at the plate with a double and single. Rizzo singled twice and drew a walk. Kissick homered with two RBI. Ponziani singled and was hit-by-a -pitch and Hughes singled with an RBI. David Jimm added a single. Luca Smith led Ellwood City at the plate with a double and single. Hughes was starting and winning pitcher. He allowed two hits, two runs and fanned six batters. Owens picked up the save with three outstanding innings of relief. He and struck out eight of nine batters in his stint.

Neshannock erased a 5-4 deficit in the fourth inning with a three-run rally to best Cranberry Township, 7-5, in the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Saturday afternoon. Gabe Ponziani doubled and singled to lead Neshannock at the plate and Luca Perrotta nailed down the save.
Cranberry Township opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Teagan Sheppard and Patrick Curtis walked with one out. After a strikeout, Brandon Prag walked to load the bases. Sheppard scored on a wild pitch to give Cranberry Township a 1-0 lead. After a scoreless second inning, Neshannock erupted for four runs in the top of the third inning. Jack Harlan walked to lead off the inning. After two strikeouts, David Jimm drew a walk. Jack Rizzo follwed with a double to right fiield scoring both runners to give Neshannock a 2-1 lead. Alex Paglia singled up the middle scoring Rizzo to give Neshannock a 3-1 lead. Ty Cook followed with a single sending Paglia to third base. Bean Owens dollowed with an RBI-single to up the Neshannock lead to 4-1. The lead was short-lived as Cranberry Township rallied for four runs in their half of the inning. Evan Fredericks was hit by a pitch and Geno Boyle followed with a single. Sheppard singled to load the bases. Curtis followed with a three-run triple clearing the bases to tie the score at 4-4. Brandon Prag singled Curtis to third base. Curtis scored on a wild pitch as Cranberry Township regained the lead 5-4. In the top of the fourth inning, Neshannock gained the lead for good. Gabe Ponziani led off the inning with a double. Yuriah Hughes followed with a single moving Ponziani to third base. Jack Harlan reached on an error scoring Ponziani to tie the score at 5-5. Trey Kissick followed with a single to score to score Hughes to give Neshannock a 6-5 lead. Danny Schachern followed with a fielder's choice scoring Harlan to increase the Neshannock lead to 7-5. Cranberry Township failed to score in their final three at-bats and Neshannock claimed the hard-fought win.
Ponziani led Neshannock at the plate with a double and single. Rizzo doubled with two RBI and Bean Owens added a double with an RBI. Paglia and Kissick had a single and RBI. Sheppard led Cranberry Township with a double, single and walk. Prig singled twice and walked and Curtis doubled, walked and drove in three runs. Boyle added a single. Paglia was the winning pitcher in relief. Cook fanned five batters with allowing a hit in two innings. Luca Perrotta nailed down the save with two innings of relief with three strikeouts.

Laurel scored three runs in the first inning without a hit inning and went on to defeat Ellwood City, 5-2, in the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Saturday afternoon. Three walks, an error and three wild pitches allowed Laurel to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Nick Courson allowed just one-hit to gain the save and Brayden Presnar singled twice to lead Laurel.
After Ellwood City failed to score in the top of the first inning, Laurel scored three runs in the bottom of the inning. Nick Courson reached on an error with one out and T.J. McVay followed with a walk. After a passed ball, both runners moved up a base. A wild pitch allowed Courson to score to give Laurel a 1-0 lead. Carson Mahoney drew a walk and another wild pitchl scored McVay to give Laurel a 2-0 lead. After a passed ball, another wild pitch allowed Mahoney to score to up the Laurel lead to 3-0. Ellwood City got on the board in the top of the second inning. Mason Babel smacked a single to center field and Nate Martin drew a walk. Ben Sukits singled and on an error Babel scored to cut the deficit to 3-1. Ellwood City narrowed the lead in the top of the third inning. Alton Sipes singled and was forced out by Tyre Patterson, Patterson advanced on a passed ball and scored on a double by Luca Smith to slice the deficit to 3-2. Laurel added a solo run in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Luca Loccisano singled and Rowan Richards drew a base on balls. Luca Benedict followed with a walk to load the bases. Starting and winning pitcher T.J. McVay allowed four hits, one earned run and struck out five batters. Courson allowed just one hit and fanned six batters to earn the save. Presner led Laurel at the plate with two singles and an RBI. Mahoney added a double and Courson and Loccisano added singles. Babel led Ellwood City with a double and single. Smith added a double and Sukits and Sipes added singles.
CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP OUTSLUGS SHENANGO, 18-10, BEHIND SHEPARD IN 73RD ELLWOOD CITY LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
Cranberry Township outslugged Shenango, 18-10, in the nightcp of the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Friday night at Freidhoff Field. Teagen Shepard rapped two doubles, a single and drove in three runs to lead Cranberry Township.
Shenango scored four runs in the top of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Cranberry Township roared back in the bottom of the first inning by sending 16 batters to the plate and scoring 10 runs to take a 10-4 lead. Shenango answered with three runs in the top of the second inning to cut the deficit to 10-7. Shenango scored a solo run in the top of the third to narrow the lead to 10-8. Cranberry Township added two runs in the bottom of the third inning to open up a 12-8 lead. Shenango scored a solo run in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 12-9. Cranberry Township added six more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase their lead to 18-9. Shenago closed the scoring with a run in the top of the sixth inning to make the final score 18-10.
Sheppard led Cranberry Township at the plate with a double, single and three RBI. Patric Curtis doubled twice and drove in two runs.Brandon Prag doubled with two RBI and Dominic Rossi singled, walked twice and had three RBI. Geno Boyle, Levi Fabus and Dylan James all singled with an RBI and Philip Hatten walked twice with ah RBI. Greyson Thomas led Shenango with two doubles. a walk and an RBI. Luca Fiore doubled, single and drew two walks. Carter Pelusp and Cian Klik added a double with a walk, Carter Reamer singled and walked , and Ryan Fry drew two base on balls.

Neshannock defeated Cranberry Township, 10-2, in the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Friday night. Ty Cook smacked two home runs and drove in four runs to lead Neshannock.
Neshannock scored in the first inning on a double by Alex Paglia , a ground out nd and a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead. Neshannock added three more runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. The key hits in the inning were a Luca Perrotta double by Luca Perrotta, an RBI single by Gabe Ponziani, and RBI-single by Jack Harlan and and RBI-double by Trey Kissick. Neshannock added three more runs in the third inning. David Jimm singled and with two outs Cook hit his first home run over the centerfield fence to give Neshannock a 6-0 lead. Bean Owens followed with a double and scored on Jaydon Tedrow's single to up the lead to 7-0. Cranberry Township got on the board with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Gabrial Urban singled and Evan Fredericks followed with a double. A ground out by Geno Boyle drove in Urban and Teagen Shepard doubled in Fredericks to cut the Cranberry Township deficit to 7-2. Neshannack rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jack Rizzo singled and with one out Ty Cook smacked his second home run to raise the Neshannock lead to 9-2. Owens follwed with a double and scored oJaydon Tedrow's single to close the scoring at 10-2.
Cook led Neshannock with two home runs and four RBI. Owens and Perrotta doubled twice and Tedrow singled twice with two RBI. Harlan singled twice with an RBI and Kissick and Ponziani doubled with an RBI. Pagia added a double and Jack Rizzo, Turiah Hughes and Jimm added a single. LAUREL DOWNS CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, 4-1, IN 73RD ELLWOOD CITY LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT-MAHONEY, PRESNAR COMBINE ON TWO-HITTER
Laurel downed Cranberry Township, 4-1, in the nightcap of the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Thursday night. Carson Mahoney and Brayden Presnar combined on at two-hitter and were backed by a flawless Laurel defense.
Laurel scored three runs in the top of the first inning with two outs to take a 3-0 lead. Presnar lead off the inning with a single. After a strikeout, Nick Courson was hit by a pitch sending Presnar to second base. With two outs, T.J. McVay reached on an infield single to load the bases. Luca Loccisano reached on an error scoring Presnar to give Laurel a 1-0 lead. Luca Benedict walked scoring Courson to up the Laurel lead to 2-0. Wyatt Nagel drew a base on balls forcing in McVay to increase the lead to 3-0. After two scoreless innings, Cranberry Township threatened in the bottom of the fourth inning. Geno Boyle walked and removed on a fielder's choice. Patrick Curtiss singled and Dominic Rossi walked to load the bases. But a strikeout and fielder's choice ended the threat. Laurel added another run in the top of the fifth inning Cayden Houck walked and Nick Emery reached on an error to place runners at first and second base. Presnar grounded into a fielder's choice and Houck scored on the the play to raise the Laurel lead to 4-0.
Cranberry Township brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two outs, Teagen Shepard singled to center field. Curtiss launched a high drive that hit the top of the center field fence for a double scoring Shepard to cut the deficit to 4-1. Dominic Rossi drew a walk to bring the tying run to the plate but Presnar fanned the final batter to preserve the Laurel victory.
Mahoney was the starting and winning pitcher for Laurel. In three innings of hitless work, Mahoney fanned nine batters and walked one batter. Presnar picked up the save by closing out the victory with three innings of relief. Presnar allowed two hits and struck out five batters. T.J. McVay led Laurel at the plate with two singles and Presnar added a single. Curtiss led Cranberry Township with a double and single. Shepard and Gabriel Urban added singles.
NESHANNOCK DEFEATS SHENANGO, 7-1, BEHIND PAGLIA AND PERROTTA IN 73RD ELLWOOD CITY LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
Neshannock defeated Shenango, 7-1, in the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Thursday night. Alex Paglia belted a home run and single and Luca Perrotta rapped two singles and picked up the win on the mound. The game was resumed after rain halted action on Wednesday.
Alex Paglia hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to give Neshannock a 1-0 lead. Neshannock added to their lead with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Luca Perrotta singled and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Gabe Ponziani smacked an RBI-single scoring Perrotta to up the lead to 2-0. Trey Kissick drew a walk moving Ponziani to second base. Jack Harlan's RBI-single drove in Ponziani to increase the Neshannock lead to 3-0. Shenango sliced the lead in the top of the third with a solo run. Marco Campoli led off the inning with a single. With one out, Luca Fiore and Carter Peluso drew base on balls to load the bases. With two outs, Cian Klik walked to score Campoli to cut the deficit to 3-1. Neshannock rallied for four runs in the bottom of the frame. Alex Paglia and Ty Cook walked to lead off the inning. Jayden Tedrow received a walk to load the bases. Alex Paglia scored on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 4-1. Luca Perrotta followed with a single scoring Cook to up the lead to 5-1. Yuriah Hughes followed with a single scoring Tedrow to increase the lead to 6-1. Perrotta scored on a wild pitch to close out the scoring and give Neshannock a 7-1 lead. Neither team scored in the final three innings and Neshannock claimed the victory.
Paglia led the Neshannock offense with a home run, single and an RBI. Perrotta added two singles and an RBI. Ponziani, Hughes and Harlan added RBI- singles. Carter Smith led Shenango with a double and Luca Fiore and Marco Campoli added singles. Perrotta was the starting and winning pitcher with three innings of work.
ELLWOOD CITY RALLIES FOR FOUR RUNS IN THE FIFTH INNING TO DEFEAT SHENANGO, 5-2, IN 73RD ELLWOOD CITY LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT-SUKITS THREE-RUN TRIPLE KEYS VICTORY-ZITO, SMITH COMBINE FOR NO-HITTER WITH 17 STRIKEOUTS
Ellwood City rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Shenango, 5-2, in the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Tuesday night. Ben Sukits smacked the key hit of the game with a three-run triple which erased a 2-1 deficit. Joey Zito and Luca Smith combined for a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts to lead Ellwood City on the mound.
Shenango took an early lead in the top of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Luca Fiore drew a base on balls and moved around the bases on three wild pitches to score to give Shenango a 1-0 lead. Ellwood City scored a solo run in the bottom of the third inning to tie the score. With one out Brandon Bushman singled to rightfield and stole second base. Bushman moved to third base on a dropped third strike by the catcher and stole home to knot the score at 1-1. Shenango regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Carter Peluso reached on an error and stole second base and moved third on a wild pitch. Carter Smith drew a base on balls and on a double steal Peluso stole home to give Shenango a 2-1 lead. Ellwood City rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning with four runs to take the lead. Kaden Emswiler lead off with a single. Mason Bable followed with a single to send Emswiller to second base. Nate Martin drew a walk to load the bases to set the stage for Sukits. On a 1-2 count, Sukits drove a groundball triple to the rightfield fence scoring all three runners to give Ellwood City a 4-2 lead. An error on the play allowed Sukits to advance to third base. Sukits scored on a wild pitch as Ellwood City increased their lead to 5-2. Smith fanned all three batters in the top of the sixth inning to give Ellwood City the victory.
Starting pitcher Zito fanned nine batters in three innings of no-hit ball and fanned nine batters with one walk. Smith picked up the win with three innings of no-hit pitching and fanned eight batters. Connor Reamer pitched three innings for Shenango and allow one-hit and fanned eight batters. Sukits led Ellwood City at the plate with a triple and three RBI. Isaiah Thompson, Emswiller, Bable and Bushman added singles. Klayton Altman drew two base on balls.
A moment of silence was observed for the Bogacki family who were involved in tragic accident on Saturday night. Nathan and Grant were former players in the Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation.

Cranberry Township downed Neshannock in the opening game of the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Monday night. Patrick Curtis smacked a three-run home run and single and picked up the victory on the mound to lead Cranberry Township. Cranberry Township scored four runs in the first inning and three runs in the fourth inning all with two outs.
Neshannock jumped out to early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning.Jack Rizzo led off with a single and Alex Paglia followed with a single sending Rizzo to third base. Ty Cook followd with a double scoring Rizzo to give Neshannock a 1-0 lead. Jayden Tedrow was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Luca Perrotta reached on a fileder's choice scoring Paglia to up the Neshannock lead to 2-0. Cranberry Township roared back with four runs in the bottom of the inning with two outs. Teagen Shepherd singled with one out and was forced out on Curtis' groundball. Domenick Rossi singled and Brandon Prag reached on an error to load the bases. Phillip Hatten reached on an error to score Curtis to cut the deficit to 2-1. Dylan James followed with a singled scoring Rossi and Prag as Cranberry Township took a 3-2 lead. Levi Fabus reached on an error increase the Cranberry Township lead to 4-2 After two scoreless innings, Cranbeery Township added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gino Boyle and Shepherd drew walks and Curtis followed with a towering home run to up the Cranberry Township lead to 7-2. Neshannock failed to score in the final two frames as Cranberry Township claimed the opener.
Curtis led Cranberry Township at the plate with a home run, single and three RBI. Rossi added two singles and Shepherd singled and drew a base on balls. James singled with two RBI and Prag drew two walks. Rizzo led Neshannock with a single and two walks. Cook doubled with an RBI and Perrotta singled with an RBI. Danny Schachern and Paglia added singles. Curtis was the starting and winning pitcher for Cranberry Township. he fanned five batters in three innings of work Levi Fabus threw three shutout innings of relief to gain the save.
