RIVERSIDE DOWNS ELLWOOD CITY, 3-1, TO WIN 70TH ELLWOOD CITY LITTLE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP-MEYER LEADS WIN WITH HOMER, TWO RBI-RIVERSIDE WINS FIFTH TITLE-FIRST SINCE 2012
Riverside downed Ellwood City, 3-1, to win the 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament Sunday night at Freidhoff Field. Dylan Meyer led Riverside to the victory with a home run and two RBI. The victory gave Riverside their fifth title in the tournament and their first since 2012.
Riverside scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. With one out, Matthew Santillo singled and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Meyer followed with a single to score Santillo to give Riverside a 1-0 lead. Meyer went to second base on the throw to the plate and went to third base on a wild pitch. Tony Chill followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to score Meyer to increase the lead to 2-0.
Riverside added to their lead with a run in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Meyer smacked a solo home run to center field to raise their lead to 3-0.
Ellwood City mounted a serious threat in their final at bat in the sixth inning. Anthony Popovich led off the inning with a single and Colton Hardy drew a walk to put runners on first and second base. Matt Kelly followed with a line out to third base. Cameron Mills then hit a long drive to deep center field scoring Popovich to cut the deficit to 3-1. After a strikeout, Allan Street drew a base on balls to load the bases. With the tying run on second base, a strikeout ended the threat and the game.
Meyer led Riverside with a home run, single and two RBI. Santillo and Dylan Madison added singles. Popovich led Ellwood City with two singles. Mills rapped an RBI-single and Garrett Banyay added a single.
Jared Sanders was the starting and winning pitcher for Riverside. He threw three scoreless innings and allowed one hit. He struck out four batters. Santillo picked up the save allowing one run and three hits. He fanned six batters for Riverside. Hardy threw two scoreless innings for Ellwood City. He did not allow a hit and fanned two batters.
Ellwood City's Popovich was the defensive star of the game. He handled five chances at second base flawlessly including a smash off the bat of Sanders.
Matt Meyer managed Riverside to the tournament crown. Craig Mills piloted Ellwood City to the second place finish.
With the victory, Riverside dethroned two-time defending champion Ellwood City. Riverside avenged last year's 10-8 loss in the championship to Ellwood City. Ellwood City defeated Mars, 4-2, to win the title in 2019.

Colton Hardy smacked six home runs to win the 20th Ellwood City Little League Tournament Home Run Derby. Hardy from Ellwood City defeated 23 other contestants.
ELLWOOD CITY DEFEATS NESHANNOCK, 4-3, TO REACH CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND-MEETS RIVERSIDE TONIGHT-BIONDI SINGLES IN WINNING RUN
Ellwood City defeated Neshannock, 4-3, to reach the championship round of the 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Saturday night. Gino Biondi broke a 3-3 deadlock with and RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Neshannock jumped out to an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning. Christian Holmstrup lead off the game with a double for Neshannock. After a ground out, Holmstrup scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Cameron to give Neshannock a 1-0 lead. Ellwood City answered with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Garrett Banyay led off with a single. With one out, Anthony Popovich smacked a line drive into the right field corner and rounded the bases for an inside-the-park home run to give Ellwood City a 2-1 lead.
Neshannock retook the lead in the top of the second inning. Liam Holtquist singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Max Moses followed with an RBI-single scoring Holtquist to knot the score at 2-2. A wild pitch advanced Holtquist to second base.After two strikeouts, Grayson Measel singled in Holtquist to give Neshannock a 3-2 lead. Ellwood City deadlocked the score with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Banyay drew a walk with one out and stole seond base. After a strikeout, an error with two outs allowed Banyay to score to tie the score at 3-3.
Neshannock threatened in the top of the fifth inning with singles by Mason Moroz and Tyler Cernivichus, but a strike out ended the threat. Ellwood City scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Aiden Kelosky was a hit-by- a pitch to start of the inning. After a wild pitch moved Kelosky to second base, the next two batters struck out for Ellwood City. Biondi followed with a single to right field scoring Kelosky to give Ellwood City a 4-3 lead. Neshannock went in order in the top of the sixth inning to send Ellwood City to the final round.
Popovich led Ellwood City at the plate with a home run, walk and two RBI. Banyay singled and walked and Biondi singled with an RBI. Jacob McCallister added a single. Holmstrup led Neshannock with a double. Moses and Measel singled with an RBI apiece. Holtquist, Cernivichus, Moroz and Amari Rapchak added singles.
Colton Hardy was the winning pitcher in relief for Ellwood City. He allowed two hits in three scoreless innings of relief. He struck out four batters.

RIVERSIDE EDGES ELLWOOD CITY, 1-0, IN THE 70TH ELLWOOD CITY LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT TO REACH CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
Riverside edged Ellwood City, 1-0, in the winners' bracket final of the 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Friday night. Riverside broke open a scoreless tie with the games' only run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The win advanced Riverside to the championship round on Sunday night. Councilman Jim Barry, who played in the first Ellwood City Little League Tournament in 1952, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Jared Sanders for Riverside and Colton Hardy for Ellwood City threw scoreless innings in the first three frames. Ellwood City's Anthony Popovich single was the only hit over the first three innings. Sanders fanned seven Ellwood City batters and Hardy struck out eight Riverside batters.
Ellwood City threatened in the top of the fourth inning. Garrett Banyay walked but was caught stealing on a laser throw from Riverside catcher Dylan Meyer. With one out, Ellwood City put two runners on base after an error and a walk. But a strikeout ended the threat.
In the bottom of the fourth inning Riverside broke the deadlock. With one out, Dylan Meyer doubled to the center field gap. Ethan Shearer followed with a looping single to right field scoring Meyer to give Riverside a 1-0 lead.
Both teams were retired in order the rest of the way.
Meyer led Riverside at the plate with a double and scored a run. Shearer had an RBI-single for Riverside. Popovich singled for Ellwood City.
Matthew Santillo was the winning pitcher for Riverside with three scoreless innings of relief. He did not allow a hit and fanned six batters. Sanders threw three scoreless innings and allowed one hit. He struck out seven batters. Hardy threw three scoreless innings for Elwood City. He did not allow a hit and struck out eight batters.

GIERLACH POWERS NESHANNOCK OVER SHENANGO, 4-0, IN 7OTH ELLWOOD CITY LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT-BAUTTI BACKS NESHANNOCK WITH ARM, BAT
Kevin "Cuzzie" Gierlach belted two home runs to power Neshannock over Shenango, 4-0, in the 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Friday night at Freidhoff Field. Gierlach drove in three runs and threw three scoreless innings to lead Neshannock. Rocco Bautti added two hits and completed the shutout with hurling three scoreless innings.
Neshannock jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Grayson Measel drew a base on balls with one out. Gierlach followed with a blast over the right field fence to give Neshannock a 2-0 lead.
After two scoreless innings, Neshannock added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, Gierlach hit his second home run of the night again over the right field fence to increase the Neshannock lead to 3-0. Ryan Cameron walked and Rocco Bautti doubled to score Cameron to up the lead to 4-0. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
Gierlach led Neshannock with two home runs and three RBI. Bautti doubled and singled and drove in a run. Amari Rapchak added a double. Nate Deem led Shenango with a single and walk. Gabe Bryant, Nicolas Garcewski and Lucian Leitera added singles.
Starting and winning pitcher Bautti threw three scoreless innings for Neshannock. He fanned six batters and allowed two singles. Gierlach picked up the save with three scoreless innings of relief. He allowed two singles and struck out four batters.

Shenango defeated Beaver Falls, 5-2, in the 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff field on Thursday night. Dominic Dando and Gabe Bryant led Shenango on the mound and Matt Fry, Rick Ziegler and Nate Deem led the way at the plate.
Beaver Falls took an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning. Marco Harris walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Tyson Davis rapped an RBI-single to score Harris to give Beaver Falls a 1-0 lead. Shenango responded with three runs in the bottom of of the inning. Dando walked and moved to second base on a ground out. Callan Long singled with two outs to score Dando to knot the score at 1-1. Zeigler followed with a single and stole second base to put both runners in scoring position. Fry delivered a single score both runners to up the lead to 3-1.
In the second inning, Shenango added two more runs. Jonathan Santagelo singled and Lucien Leitera drew a base on balls. Nate Deem followed with a two-run double to increase the Shenango lead to 5-1. Beaver Falls narrowed the deficit in the top of the fifth inning. Bryce Borghi singled with one out. After a strikeout, Chorde Reinhardt singled Borghi to third base. Cam Janectic followed with an RBI-single scoring Borghi to make the final margin to 5-2.
Dando was the starting and winning pitcher for Shenango. He allowed one hit and one run and fanned seven batters. Bryant picked up the save with three innings of work. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out four.
Fry led Shenango at the plate with a two singles and two RBI. Zeigler singled twice and Deem added a two-run double. Long added an RBI-single and Jonathan Santangelo rapped a single.

Neshannock downed Beaver Falls, 6-1, in the 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Thursday night at Freidhoff Field. Liam Holtquist and Christian Holmstrup combined on a three-hitter to lead Neshannock to the victory.
Neshannock opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with three runs. Christian Holmstrup singled and was retired on a fielder's choice by Grayson Measel. Kevin Gierlach walked and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Ryan Cameron followed with a triple scoring Measel and Gierlach to give Neshannock a 2-0 lead.Cameron moved to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a wild pitch to up the lead to 3-0. Beaver Falls answered in the bottom half of the inning on back-to-back doubles by Jett Williams and Tyson Davis to cut the deficit to 3-1.
In the top of the second inning, Neshannock added two more runs. Max Moses walked and Colton Robison reached on an error. Mason Moroz reached on an error scoring Moses to up the lead to 4-0. Amari Rapchak followed with an RBI-single scoring Robison to raise the lead to 5-1. In the top of the third, Neshannock added its final run. Gierlach was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. With two outs, Holtquist doubled in Gierlach to make the score 6-1. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
Holtquist was the starting and winning pitcher for Neshannock. He allowed one run on three hits and fanned seven batters. Holmstrup picked up the save with three scoreless innings of relief. He did not allow a hit and struck out four batters.

Ellwood City erupted for eight runs in the sixth inning to pull away from Beaver Falls, 9-0, in the 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Wednesday night. Colten Hardy and Garrett Banyay combined on a no-hitter and struck out 16 batters to lead Ellwood City. With the victory, Ellwood City reaches the winners' bracket final and will meet Riverside on Friday at 8:00 PM.
Beaver Falls' Tyson Davis and Ellwood City's Colton Hardy threw hitless innings over the first three innings. Tyson Davis retired nine batters in a row and fanned five batters. Hardy fanned nine batters and walked just one.
In the top of the fourth inning, Ellwood City scored the first run of the game. Garrett Banyay led off with a double and moved to third base on a ground out. Banyay scored on a wild pitch to give Ellwood City a 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless fifth inning, Ellwood City exploded for eight runs in the top of the sixth inning. Banyay and Gino Biondi led off with walks. Anthony Popovich followed with a double scoring Banyay and Biondi to give Ellwood City a 3-0 lead. Hardy walked and Matt Kelly followed with a single scoring Popovich to make it 4-0. Cameron Mills walked to load the bases and Jacob McCallister singled scoring Hardy to give Ellwood City a 5-0 lead. With one out, Adam Jeffcoat reached on an error scoring Kelly to increase the lead to 6-0. Adam Kelosky followed with a single scoring Mills and McCallister to raise the lead to 8-0. An error allowed Kelosky to score to account for the final 9-0 margin.
Starting pitcher Hardy was the winning pitcher allowing no hits, nine strikeouts and one walk in three innings of work for Ellwood City. Banyay picked up the save allowing no hits, seven strikeouts and two walks. Davis threw three scoreless innings retiring all nine batters.

Liam Hultquist belted a grand slam and drove in six runs to lead Neshannock over Shenango, 14-0, in the 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Wednesday night. Neshannock scored five runs in the first inning and seven runs in the second inning on the way to the victory.
In the top of the first inning, Neshannock struck for five runs with two outs. Christian Holmstrup reached on an error to start the game. After two strikeouts, walks to Ryan Cameron and Rocco Bautti loaded the bases. Hultquist followed with a grand slam to give Neshannock a 4-0 lead. Max Moses singled and Colton Robison drew a base on balls. Mason Moroz followed with a single scoring Moses to up the lead to 5-0.
In the second inning, Neshannock added seven more runs. Colin Houk singled to lead off the inning and Holmstrup followed with a single. After a ground out, Kevin Gierlach walked to load the bases. Cameron drew a walk to force in Houk to make it 6-0. Bautti followed with an RBI-single scoring Holmstrup to up the lead to 7-0. Hultguist followed with a single scoring Gierlach and Cameron to increase the lead to 9-0. Moses and Robison drew walks to score Bautti to up the lead to 10-0. Mason Moroz singled in Hultquist to up the margin to 11-0. Amari Rapchack singled in Moses to raise the lead to 12-0.
Neshannock closed the scoring in the top of the third inning on a double by Gierlach followed by an RBI-double by Cameron to make the score 13-0. Bautti followed with a single scoring Cameron to account for the final 14-0 score.

Riverside downed Shenango, 11-1, in the nightcap of the opening night of the 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field n Tuesday night. Dylan Meyer homered and doubled, Tony Chill homered and singled and Joe Anderson tripled and doubled to lead Riverside.
Riverside jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Anderson led off with a walk an Matthew Santillo reached on an error. After a strikeout, Tony Chill belted a three-run home run to give Riverside a 3-0 lead. Riverside added four more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Dykan Madison walked, stole second base and scored on a single by Laiken Quear to up the lead to 4-0. Anderson followed with an RBI-triple to give Riverside a 5-0 lead. After a line out, Meyer doubled in Anderson to increase the Riverside lead to 6-0. Chill followed with a single scoring Meyer to up the Riverside lead to 7-0.
Riverside added a solo tally in the bottom of the third inning. With one out, Quear walked and scored on an RBI-double by Anderson to increase the lead to 8-0. Riverside added another single run In the bottom of the fourth inning. Jared Sanders reached on a fielder's choice and Broadway Oliastro was hit by a pitch. Dylan Madison followed with an RBI-single scoring Sanders to raise the lead to 9-0. In the top of the fifth inning, Shenango scored a single tally. Ricky Ziegler walked to lead off the inning. With one out, Matt Fry drew a base on balls. Rocco Rossi followed with a single scoring Zeigler to narrow the deficit to 9-1. In the bottom of the fifth inning Riverside added the final two runs of the game. Santillo walked with one out. Meyer followed with a long home run over the left field fence to 11-1 and the ten-run rule was invoked.
Meyer led Riverside at the plate with a home run, double and three RBI. Tony Chill hit a home run, single and drew a walk with four RBI. Anderson tripled, doubled and walked and Madison, Quear and Shearer added singles for Riverside. Rossi led Shenango with a single.

Ellwood City defeated Neshannock, 9-0, in the opening game of the 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Tuesday night. Colton Hardy smacked a three-run homer, double and was the winning pitcher to lead Ellwood City.
Ellwood City opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a four-run rally. Garrett Banyay led off the game with a single and went to third base on a double by Gino Biondi. Anthony Popovich followed with a double scoring Banyay to give Ellwood City a 1-0 lead. Hardy followed with three-run homer scoring Biondi and Popovich ahead of him to up the Ellwood City lead to 4-0.
In the second inning Ellwood City threatened again. Allen Street led of with a single and Grant Bokacki followed with a single. After a strikeout, Neshannock turned a second baseman-to shortstop to first baseman double pay to end the threat. After a scoreless third inning, Ellwood City added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Hardy led off with a double and Matt Kelly reached on an error. After a strikeout, Jacob McCallister walked to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Hardy to score to increase the Ellwood City lead to 5-0. Street walked to reload the bases. Grant Bokacki drew a walk to force in Kelly to up the lead to 6-0. McCallister scored on a wild pitch to raise the Ellwood City lead to 7-0.
